As you may have seen in my last post I’ve been working on a digital version of my purple pony drawing. I spent a long time trying to create the same kind of background I used before but I didn’t like how it was turning out.
I’m currently re-working another old piece. Here it is from my teenage/young adult years:
The red version is my one and only attempt at lino printing. I like the design a lot but my adult self felt the need to have more realistic proportions. Here is how I ruined the design with correct proportions:
Here is the design without the ugly neck:
You might recognise the next incarnation:
And here is the digital version in progress:
I finished this piece ages ago but I fell out with it so I didn’t put it on my blog. I wasn’t very happy with the colour for a start. I preferred it when it was just black and white. Then I compounded the problem by putting it in an unsuitable frame. I gave up on it just now and took it out of the frame. It was a relief, and, without the frame, the piece doesn’t look so bad. I’ve still put it away though.
I was given an orchid plant for Mother’s Day and it’s just come into bloom again. I’m so pleased – just look at all those buds waiting to open. (You can click on the photos to see them enlarged.)
This is Invisible Illness Awareness Week and I’m doing my bit to raise awareness of MCS. In case you didn’t see my post yesterday, here is one from Sonda which gives the same message but more LOUDLY! I hope you enjoy her sense of humour as much as I do. 😀

I drew this piece for my blogging friend Colleen. She’s a talented photographer with a kind heart. She wants to visit Ireland, land of her ancestors, but she can’t because the trip could kill her. She suffers from a condition that could creep up on any one of us. In fact, more Americans are diagnosed with it than with diabetes. If you want to know what it is, and how to prevent it, then you’d better check out Colleen’s blog.
I drew this piece in Manga Studio on a drawing tablet called the Cintiq Companion. Even though it’s digital art I wanted it to look hand-drawn so I avoided using the graphics design tools like grids and rulers. I must admit to doing plenty of cutting and pasting on the flower grid pattern, fifth up on the right, though. I really enjoyed doing this piece and I’m starting to get better at using layers in Manga Studio.
By the way, if you want to know why the piece says “Eau de Colleen” then you need to check out this post.
