My Birds Aren’t Good Enough

I was hoping to hide this news in a post about origami or something but I haven’t got anything new to show you.  Anyway, I found out a few days ago that my Magpie picture didn’t make it into the Mayo Artist’s Show.  My only other submission to be rejected (see below) also featured birds.

I still like it though.  It’s called Lir’s Children.  I’ve started doing a digital version using Manga Studio.  Don’t hold your breath though.  I’m making very slow progress.

  1. I know art and beauty are subjective BUT seriously — your art is truly spectacular. I would love to see what WAS accepted. When my son was in elementary school he came home all riled up because his art teacher had accepted his piece for the art show — however — he had done it in black and white and she wanted him to add color. We had a talk about artistic integrity and I told him as a artist he had to right to do what he thought was beautiful. I was proud of him that he chose beauty over accolades. I’m glad you’ve chosen to keep sharing your beauty with the world. 😀

    • It’s good that your son chose to stay true to his artistic feeling but it’s also good that he had a mum who had the wisdom to encourage her son to be true to himself rather than to knuckle under.
By the way, I’m hoping to go to the Show to check out the competition! I’ll let you know what I find.

  2. I like your new work as well Sarah, as far as the other thing the judges must have been on the take or something 🙂

  3. I am shocked, it’s all so beautiful.

  4. At Arts Shows you never know what they are ‘looking for at the moment’. I am not a specialist but my deep emotions like your arts piece a lot 🙂

    • Thank you. I really appreciate that you take the time to comment. I love your art too but I often only hit the Like button. I think it’s because I’m a quiet person – I’m not used to giving feedback. I will try to comment on your posts more often in future.

  5. I like it too chica! It’s lovely the way the birds are intertwined. 🙂

  6. This is very good work. You are very talented. Cheers.

  7. I think it’s wonderful, Sarah!

  8. Your art is unique and beautiful. I don’t know how they judge their selections, but your Magpie should have been in there. Don’t let one event discourage you.

  9. Thanks for your interest in “Tails from Paris”. We’re now following your blog.

Hey ! You know you can treat yourself with a little trip to Paris if you feel like it :

And you’re back for dinner : we promise 😉

  10. Your birds are fabulous…the judges have poor taste or they are not bird lovers. This is one of those times when it really is THEM and not you.
